Warriors need to clean the Mold off
Jan 13, 2013, 8:57 pm

Warriors looked liked they were going to give Mold a +100 score on Friday but they woke up and started to work harder. Without some quality time together on a training court it will be difficult for this team to gel and start working well together. Hopefully, time can be found to rectify this and they can turn it around later in the season.

Minotaurs and Cyclops Battle It Out On Home Court
Nov 27, 2012, 10:30 pm

Due to bad weather most NWBA youth games were cancelled this week but the Wrexham derby between Minotaurs and Cyclops was relocated to their training court at Ysgol Clywedog.

The game started with the teams exchanging baskets in the first quarter but then it looked like the Cyclops were going to run away with the game as they started to push ahead with a run of eight points at the end of the second quarter, Benavidez and Jones having contributed the most to getting Cyclops eight points ahead.

The Minotaurs worked hard in the third, and finished with their own push of points that left them a tantalising four points behind going into the final quarter. They just couldn't get the ball from the Cyclops grasp often enough to sink enough points to crawl infront.

Coach Rich Holden said "Both the Wrexham under 18 teams have bags of potential. Tonight there were some strong individual scoring performances from Russell Timog [26 pts] and Connor Jones [16pts] with lots driving to the boards by both teams. It's just a matter of polishing some of the street ball to get the players on both teams shooting accurately at close range under pressure and looking for the open player with fast, clean passes".

Raiders 74-84 Deeside Dragons
Nov 27, 2012, 3:25 pm

Wrexham Raiders turned in their best performance of the season as they narrowly lost out to table-topping Deeside.

The Dragons bosted a 100% record coming into the match but were pushed all the way by the ever-improving Raiders.

The home side held their own in the first quarter, refusing to allow their free-scoring visitors to get away and connecting with a series of outside shots.

In addition the zone defence was forcing the Dragons to work hard for their shots - although they did have success on the fast break.

This trend continued in the second period and at the half the scores were tied at  40-40.

Raiders suffered a brief lapse in concentration at the opening of the third stanza and quickly fell 10 points behind.

But a well-timed time out from coach Dave Ellis halted the flow of points and the Raiders gradually ground down their deficit.

There were just four points in it with 90 seconds do go but the Dragons kept their nerve to break the press and pull away with a succession of uncontested buckets.

Coach Ellis said: "This was best game I've seen this season. It was very close and there were only four points in it with 1.30 on the clock. There was some excellent basketball from both teams."

Raiders 55-66 Mold Magic
Nov 20, 2012, 1:10 pm

Wrexham Raiders narrowly lost out to Mold Magic on Monday evening, acquitting themselves well despite only having five players.

The two sides were evenly matched throughout with barely more than a handful of points between them at any given time.

Raiders' zone defence was containing the Magic's well-drilled offence although the visitors did snare some key offensive boards.

At the other end guard Anthony Jackson was able to drive to the basket again and again, proving the home side's most potent attacking threat.

There were just five points in it with two minutes to go and as Raiders went for broke, Magic held their nerve, kept possession and made it count with some key baskets to stretch the lead at the death.

Raiders coach Dave Ellis said: "That was the best performance from Raiders this season.

"It could have gone either way, with us only three points down with three minutes to play.

"We just couldn't get the points at vital moments and we got punished for turnovers in the closing stages."

Outnumbered Raiders lay seige to Caenarfon Castle
Nov 13, 2012, 12:50 am

Raiders had six against an almmost full Caernarfon Celts bench and it would've been a much closer game if Raiders hadn't let it drift at the start with 4-22 first quarter. Let's see a full bench at the next Raider's game? Big scorers were aaron and Bart with 18 and 14 respectively.

Warriors Fail To Repeat Their Victory Over Magic
Nov 4, 2012, 10:13 am

There was a full bench to choose the starting five from as Warriors arrived at Mold Alun Leisure Centre on Friday night. Expectations were high as Warriors had recently defeated Mold Magic by six points. Unfortunately there was going to be no repeat of that success as the Wrexham visitors struggled with their offense from the outset. Despite an early timeout, to try and reset the attack, warriors just looked slow and disorganised compared to a Mold team that clearly didn't want to lose a second game to Wrexham. There were a few glimpses of Wrexham's potential, with a great individual steal and attack from Fei Hou, some nice one-twos between Barrie Hill and Chris Jones and some tidy little swishes into the ring from Leo Wang. Once Warriors sort their team offense there will be some closer games and hopefully more wins. Final score: Mold Magic 81 Wrexham Warriors 42
