Who says Lightning doesn't hit the same place twice?
Oct 29, 2012, 11:35 pm

Despite a balanced start to the game at Glyndwr University on Monday, Raiders let a close game drift away. After finishing the first quarter ten points each it looked that the Raiders were in with a chance of winning their second game of the season against Lightning. Unfortunately half way through the second quarter Lightning found their range and their percentage of successful baskets outweighed Raiders'. Finishing the second quarter by a clear sixteen points Lightning made it difficult for the Raiders to come back. In the second half the visitors from Llandudno outscored Raiders by five and then thirteen points in the third and fourth quarter respectively. Special mention to Adam Krezminski who sank four three pointers in the second half.

Final score: Wrexham Raiders 52 Llandudno Lightning 76.

Coach's Comments:

I think we were all frustrated with the way we played, and we know we can play better. What has to be remembered is that we had 3 new players in the squad and it will take some time for them to gel with the rest of the team. It’s not been good preparation we’ve only had 1 training session together before the season started. From a coach’s point of view I’m having to make it up as we go along, not ideal. However we have to carry on, and I’m sure we can improve, if we come together as a TEAM.

The things to note from the stats, are the turn overs, nearly double Mold’s. The assist count while better than Magic’s is way too low, the aim of every player should be to come off the court with 10 plus assists and 10 plus points. Both of these stats indicate a lack of teamwork and that requires an effort from us all.

Despite the poor result there were some good performances, excellent 19 points from Bart, Lukas 3 from 3 from 3point land, good rebounding from Pete, Geraint and Aaron and Adam leading with the assists. We are so close to getting this right, keep the faith.

Warriors vs Celts
Oct 3, 2012, 12:01 am

Big thanks to Matt for this report of the first game of the season:

Wrexham Warriors suffered a 40-77 defeat to the Celts on Monday evening.

The Warriors, playing together for the first time after being formed this summer, could not recover from a slow start but showed some encouraging signs as the match progresses.

The disciplined and well-drilled Celts began strongly, operating an effective fast break to turn solid defence into points.

They raced ahead in the first quarter, racking up a 20-4 lead.

Slowly Wrexham's offence began to reap some rewards although scoring was sporadic at best, the first half ending with the visitors leading 39-10.

Coach Dave Ellis issued some half time advice and the results were immediate as the Warriors moved the ball sharply on offence to expose gaps in the opposition defence and start accumulating some easy points.

They more than matched their first half output in the third quarter alone but the Celts still lead 60-23.

And despite an even better final quarter where both sides managed 17 points, the margin remained the same at the end.

Matt Gamble.
