Warriors vs Celts Monday 25th November
Dec 1, 2013, 9:36 am
Aaron E drives ball up Court vs Celts
Wrexham Warriors 50 vs Celts 72 at Glyndwr University Monday 25th November

Warriors knew that they were going to have to work hard against Celts but they started the first quarter in a panic against a barrage of points from Celts and ended the first quarter with only five points, compared to Celts’ twenty three.

Recovering from Celts’ three threes at the end of the first quarter a more composed Warriors came out in the second quarter and worked hard in defence to stop the three point shots whilst locking down the key. Some strong drives by point guard Gareth “Gadge” Roberts and Aaron Ellson helped Wrexham clock up more points in the second.

The third quarter started with Warriors looking to bridge the twenty one point gap and their offense was more organised with Matt Weedall pressing the top of the paint. Player-coach Mark Timperley had a great start to the final quarter sinking  three baskets in succession. Warriors finished the game much better than they had started, winning the final quarter fourteen points to Celts’ eleven.

Wrexham’s other senior team, Raiders, faced Mold Magic away on Friday 29th November and, due to only having five players, suffered a disappointing defeat. 102 Mold 27 Raiders.

Raiders Work Hard Against Celts
Nov 11, 2013, 11:02 pm
Wrexham Raiders 59-76 Eryri Celts

Raiders had a tough game against last year’s league champions Eryri Celts. It didn’t look promising for Raiders when their top scorer Bart Kucharski picked up an injury in the first quarter and they struggled to find their best scoring options. Celts went on a 15-2 run as Raiders reorganised. In the second quarter raiders fought back, Kucharski coming off the bench to narrow the visitors' lead by nailing three three-pointers, drawing the sides level with two minutes to go before sloppy turnovers allowed Celts to finish the half ahead 35-29.

Both teams traded baskets at the start of the third period but Raiders couldn’t claw back Celts' twelve point lead as they were subjected to a full court press by the visitors. Celts were determined not to allow Raiders’ three point shooters open looks in the second half and their energetic defence meant that Raiders had to work the ball around to find shooting opportunities. Celts improved their shooting from the free-throw line and managed to extend their advantage, eventually winning by 17 points.

The focus for Wrexham Basketball Club now turns to their other teams, Wrexham Warriors, who play away to Deeside Dragons on Wednesday and then the under 18s, Minotaurs, who go to Flint to play Bromborough Bulldogs next Tuesday.

Raiders' Winning Start Over
Nov 5, 2013, 9:47 pm

ScoreboardWrexham Raiders' winning start to the season is over after a 118-75 home defeat to EPR.

EPR triumphed despite having only five players, using superior organisation, experience and dead-eye shooting to comfortably defeat their opponents.

A blistering start saw them launch a succession of successful three-point attempts, with the Raiders defence unable to stem the flow of baskets.

Pretty much every attempt was accurate and it allowed EPR to open up an unassailable lead.

Raiders eventually found some sort of scoring groove in the second period but the visitors' fast-break was absolutely clinical.

Small improvements continued in the second half but Wrexham never looked like closing the lead to anything likely to worry their opponents.

Raider’s coach Dave Ellis conceded “We got our tactics wrong in the first quarter. To go thirty points down against a very experienced team is not good. When we changed to man to man we gave them some problems and in the remaining quarters we competed well”. Bart Kucharski shot three threes in the final quarter and Rogerio Alves and Patryk Zydorczyk continue to be reliable scorers for Raiders.

Fixtures to come:

Next week. Raiders vs Caernarfon Celts (Monday), Warriors vs Deeside Dragons (Wednesday)

Following week. Under 18s Minotaurs vs Bromborough Bulldogs (Tuesday)

Dave Durham jump shots against Wizards

Last Monday Wrexham Warriors brought home a win against Oswestry Wizards, winning a close game, where the lead changed hands many times.

Warriors new coach, Mark Timperley, said: “I’m glad to get my first win this season, especially against a team coached by Cheshire Pheonix legend Shawn Myers.

"The lads showed good strength tonight to keep pushing for the win and an intelligent assist by Joel Homfray in the closing minutes and a three by Phil Ellis, helped us to secure the win”.

Winning 49 to Wizards’ 43. The club wish Rob Wallace of Oswestry Wizards a speedy recovery, after dislocating his ankle in the final minutes.

Good night for Wrexham basketball!

Raiders had a comprehensive win against Llandudno Lightning, winning in style 93-57.

Wrexham sealed the win in the third, Bart Kucharski and Patrik Zydorczyk scoring at will, Aaron Chin and Rogerio Alves supporting with the assists, while Lukas Kuzak pulled off a string of steals.

The last quarter was free scoring, as both teams played some great basketball, but the issue was never in doubt.

Raiders 85-74 Warriors
Oct 15, 2013, 4:01 pm

Raiders won the Wrexham derby 85-74 in overtime.

It looked like Raiders were going to keep Warriors at a 10 point distance throughout the game until the final quarter.

Raiders took the foot off the gas and were caught sleeping as Warriors went on a scoring spree to take the game into overtime.

Raiders woke up and pulled ahead for a comfortable finish after some silly turn over ball by Warriors.
